Walk on Water - Liquid Mountaineering - Cool Science

Image
Liquid Mountaineering is a new sport which is attempting to achieve what man has tried to do for centuries: walk on water. Or to be more precise: running on water. We are developing the sport from scratch. By accident we found out that with the right water repellent equipment you can run across bodies of water, just like a stone skimming the surface. Liquid mountaineering is performed by professionals under professional supervision. Accordingly I must insist that attempting to do so is dangerous.

Milford Sound, New Zealand

Image
Milford Sound, including the coach trip from TeAnau, is everything people said it would be.The only negative was biting flies at the dock and we wore bug spray so they weren't a problem. We passengered on the Wanderer, a masted vessel holding 80 people. We viewed falls, seals, and formations close up. It was mostly overcast. This is a very rainy area, so we did not expect to see the sun. The clouds added drama to the day, so low that the mountain tops pushed above them. The waterfalls were numerous, ranging from volumnous cascades to pencil-thin trickles. Mitre Peak appeared as a green mound near the boat dock.

NASA - Pieces of Plunging Satellite Have Settled on Earth

Image
Miami (CNN) -- Pieces of a defunct satellite that plummeted to Earth have come to rest, NASA said Saturday morning The space agency said the Upper Atmosphere Research Satellite "is down," according to the space agency's Twitter page. NASA said debris fell to Earth between 11:23 p.m. ET Friday and 1:09 a.m. ET Saturday, but it was not immediately clear where the pieces may have landed. About two dozen pieces of the satellite were expected to survive the crash through the Earth's atmosphere. Late Friday night, NASA predicted satellite parts would pass "over Canada and Africa, as well as vast areas of the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian oceans." "The risk to public safety is very remote," NASA said. The 26 pieces expected to survive the descent -- made of stainless steel, titanium and beryllium that won't burn -- ranged from about 10 pounds to hundreds of pounds, according to NASA. "The U.S. is very safe from (the satellite) ... It'

First Man to Hit Six 6s in an Over - Sir Garfield Sobers (1968)

Image
Not many people know that who was the first ever batsman to hit 6 sixes in an over.In 1968 Sobers became the first batsman ever to hit six sixes in a single over of six consecutive balls In 1968 Sobers became the first batsman ever to hit six sixes in a single over of six consecutive balls in first-class cricket. The feat consisted of five clean hits for six and one six where the ball was caught but carried over the boundary by Roger Davis. Sobers was playing as captain of Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan in Swansea; the unfortunate bowler was Malcolm Nash. This tally of 36 runs in an over broke a 57-year-old record of 34 runs, held by Ted Alletson. In 1984–85, Indian batsman Ravi Shastri equalled the record by scoring six sixes in an over while playing for Bombay versus Baroda. Garry Sobers made a significant mark on cricket history, not least as the man who first achieved the perfect six - six sixes in an over. The 1968 season was nearing its conclusion when Nottinghamshire, capt

Madain Saleh - Qaum-E-Samood - Prophet Saleh (AS)

Image
Madain Saleh (Al-Hijr) dates back to the Nabataeans Civilization considered as one of the very important archaeological site in Saudi Arabia that is called The Capital of the Monuments as it contains huge amount of diverse and multifaceted monuments. Mada'in Saleh (Arabic: مدائن صالح, madāʼin Ṣāliḥ), also called Al-Hijr or Hegra (so in Greek and Latin, e.g. by Pliny ), is a pre-Islamic archaeological site located in the Al-Ula sector, within the Al Madinah Region of Saudi Arabia. A majority of the vestiges date from the Nabatean kingdom (1st century CE).The site constitutes the kingdom's southernmost and largest settlement after Petra, its capital.Traces of Lihyanite and Roman occupation before and after the Nabatean rule, respectively, can also be found in situ, while accounts from the Qur’an tell of an earlier settlement of the area by the tribe of Thamud in the 3rd millennium BC Inscriptions engraved on rocks, facades of graves and mountains to the existence of civilization

2012 Toyota Camry - Review

Image
The reengineered 2012 Camry is good, it just doesn't make for a good story. You see, we understand that along with all the facts and opinions, you want to read a good piece of automotive journalism. And as journalists, we want to write it. There are plenty of compelling stories out there, from an underdog like Hyundai defeating its rivals, to an "oh how the mighty have fallen" story like Consumer Reports slamming the new Civic. But no one wants to read about a winner that was expected to win all along, especially not when it's done so nine years running. True, the new Camry isn't a decisive victor in the mid-size sedan category, although it does stand out in certain areas (namely the Hybrid model and overall fuel economy).

Chammak Challo - Ra One Full Video Song - Akon HD

Image
"'RA.One' theatrical promo and the sad and criminal 'Chammak challo' leak is all anyone's talking about. All I can say is, while I'm glad you guys are loving it all, you haven't seen or heard ANYTHING yet! The film, and the finished song will BLOW YOU AWAY!," Dadlani posted on his Twitter page Wednesday. The item song, which has been sung by American R&B singer Akon, features Kareena Kapoor, who is also the leading lady in the film. Dadlani is upset that media reports have been claiming that Akon has composed the number. "As to why the papers and TV guys are claiming that Akon has composed the track, I have no answer. They're all into sensationalism, they're not in the business of verifying anything. As it happens, V+S (Vishal and Shekhar) have composed, I've written and Akon has sung 'Chammak challo' brilliantly!" he said. Shah Rukh, who has co-produced the movie with Eros Entertainment, under his ban

SmartBird - Robot That Flies Like Bird

Image
The geniuses at Festo's Bionic Learning Network are well known for their fascination with robotic animals, and their latest creation is no exception. Dubbed the SmartBird, this autonomous bionic bird -- modelled on herring gulls -- graces the sky with its sophisticated two meter-long wings, which utilize a bending torso for lifelike directional control. What's more, this robot is also capable of taking off and landing on its own, but it can also be controlled and monitored from afar using ZigBee radio. Amazingly, all of this round up to just one pound, meaning the SmartBird can happily float about with moderate flapping. Jump past the break for some agile in-flight action, accompanied by an animation detailing the inner workings. Plenty of robots can fly -- but none can fly like a real bird. That is, until Markus Fischer and his team at Festo built SmartBird, a large, lightweight robot, modeled on a seagull, that flies by flapping its wings "Festo, w

January 28th, 1986 at 11:39am EDT - The Space Shuttle Challenger Explodes on its 10th flight during mission STS-51-L. The explosion occurred 73 seconds after liftoff and was actually the result of rapid deceleration and not combustion of fuel. Aboard Challenger during STS-51-L: Francis "Dick" Scobee (Commander) Michael Smith (Pilot) Judith Resnik (Mission Specialist) Ellison Onizuka (Mission Specialist) Ronald McNair (Mission Specialist) Gregory Jarvis (Payload Specialist) Sharon Christa McAuliffe (Payload Specialist - Teacher in Space) CNN was the only national news station to broadcast the mission live, so thus what you are witnessing on this video is the only coverage of the disaster as it happened when it did. Approximately 17% of Americans witnessed the launch live, while 85% of Americans heard of the news within 1 hour of the event. According to a study, only 2 other times in history up to that point had news of an event disseminated so fast - the first being
